Gleeful Thoughts: A Final Word

{via}

So the first half of the 2nd season of Glee is over! I seriously have a hard time keeping track of where we are in the season. While the other shows I watch weekly - mostly NBC Thursday night comedy - move along nicely, are consistent in awesomeness, and {most importantly} have a developing story line... I never can quite keep up with Glee. One week it's Rocky Horror, the next it's some lame excuse for a TV show. Britney and Brittany take my breath away, then Rachel and Finn make me yawn. It's a hilly ride, and here I am trying to make sense of only 10 episodes!

First things first... here's the list of episodes that have aired so far in season 2, and my grade for each one:

My favorite episode is still #2- Britney/Brittany. Maybe it's because I love Britney Spears too much (I did in fact grow up in the golden age of 00's pop - Millennium was my first album). This one not only had the best music, but the story line made sense. Though, I guess it made sense because most everything was excused with a "dream sequence." That excuse aside, it's still my favorite.

My least favorite episode was "Never Been Kissed". Seriously, I can't figure why it was so successful. The boy's version of Teenage Dream was cool... but I liked it when I saw it on Perez Hilton's website the week before. In the show it made no sense at all. C  watched this episode with me- and he had to keep checking with me to understand why we were in this scene or that scene, because transitions were sparse, explanations of the plot weren't anywhere to be found. And to top that all off- the music wasn't that great.

The season kick-off and fall finale were both perfect. "Audition" set a good stage for the rest of the season. Using "Empire State of Mind" was the perfect season opening song. It was relevant not only to the future of the Glee club (hello! nationals in NYC), but also relevant to the real-time music charts over the summer. We were eased back into McKinley High, re-introduced to characters, and met Sam. I also believe "A Very Glee Christmas" was a pleasant way to end the fall. It wasn't spectacular, but it was pleasant. I actually enjoyed watching it - which was a nice relief from the previous 4 episodes completely bombing in my opinion.

So, I'm looking forward to the spring semester - to new love, new music, and new competitions. I do want more movement. I think the series got lost in the one hit wonders, and forgot to actually tell us a story. At least I have a few great Glee albums to listen to over the break.

Have a great Glee Christmas break!
