Dear Food, Time to Take the Next Step

If you've looked at my Instagram feed lately, you may think I have a problem. Nearly every picture posted over the past few days is of food -- glorious, glorious food. And I admit it.

I do have a problem.

Food & I have a tumultuous relationship. It's a never-ending cycle of love/hate, indifference/obsession. I've always been infatuated with food. You may even consider me a "foodie." But my love of food came way before I ever heard that term. I just liked good food. Always. And I was blessed to travel enough growing up that I experienced a bunch of different cuisines.

But I also grew up with a lot of bad in my relationship with food. Mostly overindulgence. Sometimes blandness and indifference. It's why I'm always yo-yo dieting. I've never really found that perfect middle ground. The one where I'm allowed to thoroughly enjoy the art of food. Where food can be more than healthy for you, but where it can actually make you healthy. (Gasp! Concept!)

And so I'm lost in the big world of culinary possibilities. I read countless books - cook books and food science books and food culture books - and they all teach me something. But at the end of the day, I'm just one passionate girl without anywhere to turn.

But that's changing.

I've resolved to settle down with food. We need to develop an adult relationship. No more of this on-again/off-again teenage nonsense. We need to learn to respect each other, and care for each other. We need to value the other, and give each other the necessary space.

So be prepared.

What this means for you is an array of meals and recipes and lifestyle changes to come. I want to dive not only into different ways to make food, but different ways to enjoy the entire culture of food.

  1. I've always had a very disgusting relationship with food. I feel like I'm always dieting and never liking myself as much as I like eating. A few years back I lost 60 pounds and have gained some back. I wish I was less than a foodie and didn't love it so much but with food blogs and Pinterest I always find myself hungry! lol I think I need to be physically and mentally prepared!
