Fall TV: Decide What Makes the Cut...

Friday, September 28, 2012

This week was wonderful. I was super busy, got a lot of things done and fall TV is here!

My love of TV is comparable to that of Abed's from Community, except I'm not weird & I form most of my opinions based off of Tim Goodman's from "The Hollywood Reporter." (Our opinions line up way too much!)

We watch mostly single-camera, 30-minuted comedies with endearing characters. That's our main genre. (No crime dramas in this house!)

We also have 17 shows currently on our "to watch" list.

Which, even for a childless couple in their mid-twenties paying a little something extra for a DVR, is a few too many. But I'm not one to drop a TV show if I've stuck it out for a few years (see: The Office). I'm also not one to shy away from a show with a lot of good buzz surrounding it (see: The Mindy Project).

But cuts have to be made. There's no two ways about it. So I'm sharing my list & want your opinion. Because if I can't cut something out, this blog has to go* ♥

*this is not a factual statement

To Keep Watching:
  • Up All Night
  • The Office
  • Parks and Recreation
  • Modern Family
  • 30 Rock
  • It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
  • The League
  • Top Chef
  • Saturday Night Live

On the Fence:
  • Community
  • The Mindy Project
  • Raising Hope
  • New Girl
  • Glee
  • Ben and Kate
I'm Done With It:
  • The New Normal
  • Parenthood

Which of these would you drop? Let me know!

And have a great weekend. I'll be sitting on the couch catching up with everything I missed over the week.

A few months ago, I took to bragging about how proud of my husband I was at graduating college despite the many obstacles in his way. Since he's graduated college, I've had the privilege of seeing the stressed college kid turn into the dedicated, working man.

The change was spectacular to see. He began working out & is more fit now than I've ever seen him. He cooks and cleans and helps keep our house in order. He's jumped back into reading -- one of his favorite activities that he had to give up while going to school.

He's dedicated more time to learning about me & how to make our relationship better. And he's dedicated more time to learning about himself & how to become a better husband and person.

This week, he's a charity event planner.

His company, Blue Baker, hosts an annual fundraiser for the Children's Miracle Network. C has been pouring himself into planning meetings along with his usual 8 to 12 hour days. And I love seeing him work through all the obstacles and come home and tell me about all the wonderful things Blue Baker and the other participating businesses are doing.

Cookies for Kids is the official fundraising event. With cookie eating contests, fun activities for kids, and appearances by some of the local celebrities, it's sure to be a great time.

So how can you help?
First: if you're in the area of Bryan/College Station come on out! Sign up for the cookie eating contest (open to ALL ages!) and come out for the fun!
Second: you can donate funds for the cause at the official charity page.
Third: you can play the online cookie eating game, and share your results on Facebook & Twitter! It's a fun game & will raise awareness for a great cause.

Just by reading this, you've helped support C! So thank you for reading.... It truly means the world to me. And thank you for letting me brag a bit on my guy.... He definitely deserves it.

Blogging, a Tutorial: Vol. 3

Tuesday, September 25, 2012

This is the third week in a series of blogging tutorials. Last week, I covered the Rules for a Good Post. This week covers how to find inspiration. Have a question or want to submit your own tips? Email me!

Finding inspiration was one of my September goals. I love the change of the season, the onset of fall, the cool weather setting in... But let's be honest: inspiration isn't always there. It's almost a buzz word. I find myself often yearning for that inspiration that other bloggers speak of.

So I began making a list of all the things that inspire me ... and am now publishing it here. Enjoy!

***

10 Ways to Find Inspiration for Your Blog & Life

#1: Read blogs
You are the company you keep. So why not spend time with blogs that are doing it right? I promise you'll be encouraged & inspired for your own blog!

#2: Exercise
Physical activity stimulates the brain. I've had some of my best ideas while losing myself in Zumba. Plus, burning off calories is an added bonus. (It balances out all those Pinterest recipes!)

#3: Spend time away from the computer
Staring at a blank screen doesn't usually produce many original thoughts for me. When I'm at a loss, I get up, read a book - or even watch TV - just as long as I don't have to stare at that blinking cursor for one more moment.

**This is especially important for those of us with 8-5 computer jobs. You have to take breaks from the computer screen. For so many more reasons than being inspired. It's hard... (I used to spend upwards of 12 hours at the computer a day...) But you can make changes & reduce that time :)

#4: Be Alone
My best thinking is done alone. I've learned to embrace it, and have since found inspiration I never knew I could find. I'll leave this point with a thought from David Rakoff:

#5: Listen to talk radio - political, documentary, fictional or otherwise.
We listen to This American Life whenever we go on a road trip. I listen to Democracy Now on my daily drive home. There's something about talk radio that reaches a different part of my brain & drives me to seek inspiration from places I would have never thought of.

#6: Keep a notebook nearby
I keep both a notebook and Google Docs list handy, so I never miss that perfect idea whenever (or wherever) it comes.

#7: Brainstorm with a friend
Sitting over tacos with C has produced some of my best material. I love bouncing ideas off of friends and family - you get outsider's opinions and your confidence grows in your own abilities.

#8: Don't force it
When it's not coming, it won't come. If you force it, you may lose the fun of it. Inspiration can't be forced. So remember to relax and enjoy your life. You can skip a blog post. It'll be OK.

#9: When inspiration comes, go with it
And just like inspiration can't be forced, it can't be shut off. So when it comes, run with it. Stay up late. Write just a little longer. Make time for it to reach its fullest potential.

(This goes in hand with a bonus tip: leave free time in your schedule.)

#10:  ________________
Embrace the blank. A white canvas has so many possibilities! Welcome it with open arms & see what comes ♥

Weekend Update.

Monday, September 24, 2012

This weekend, we drove over to Houston to meet up with some dear family friends who had driven in from New Orleans to see a concert. (Did I mention they're both over 70?) And while we had a great time visiting with them & would have been satisfied with just that, we decided to make a weekend of it!

So we booked a hotel and signed up for a pub crawl. And it was awesome.

Stop 1Georgia's Market
The first stop was a cute organic market with a wine cellar, which featured Texas wine & beer. It'd be a great place to stop & have lunch, or pick up ingredients if you live in downtown Houston. We were slightly confused by the fermented tea drink we tried, but that's OK. The wine cellar made up for it ♥

Stop 2: Hearsay
Hearsay was a gorgeous Gastro Lounge with a giant chandelier in the ceiling, expensive cocktails and a delicious menu (we went back for brunch on Sunday because I fell so in love withe place.) We tried a Bacon Curacao Bourbon drink, and a Mescal Orange cocktail. Definitely a place worth hitting up.

Stop 3, 4 & 5Warren's InnMarket Square ParkLa Carafe
The next few stops were cool, though probably not my favorite bars of ever. La Carafe is a "haunted" bar full of red lights and creepy candles. It's cash only and wine/beer only. Market Square Park is a beautiful green spot in the middle of the busy city. Warren's Inn had a great Manhattan (and used to be a burlesque club, and still features the "stage" with booths on it now.)

Sunday we slept in, ate a lovely brunch back at Hearsay (with their bottomless mimosas for only $12!) & topped off the entire weekend by catching "Sleepwalk With Me" at the Houston Sundance Theater.

It was just a fun 24 hour vacation! C & I definitely benefited from the time away from home.

Now, welcome back to Monday! ♥

Tomorrow we're heading out to do something I've never done before... a pub crawl.

We're meeting some family friends in Houston & figured why not make a night out of it? So C got us a hotel, and surprised me with "tickets" to a pub crawl/downtown walking tour. It's going to either be really dorky or really fun. I'm hoping since alcohol is involved there will be no Segways in sight.

So yet again, it seems, my "we're going to stay home & not go anywhere!" statement on Monday has proven to be false. Again. (At least we're not boring?)

Before you wander off of the internet-land for the weekend, here's a few thinks worth checking out:

A DIY Peter Pan collar. Halloween's coming up :)

I kind of really love this dress. And it's in my size!

A Canvas Print giveaway. Totally worth checking out! (And it's from this girl)

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookies. Yes, you read that right.

Secret Ingredients to blogging. And they're not even my own tips.

I'm working for this company on the side. Come like our FB page! Pretty please ♥

Oh, and RON FREAKING SWANSON was on TV last night. Enough said.

On Marriage & Blanket Hogs

Thursday, September 20, 2012

I hate to admit it, but if you moved that line just a little more to the right (or pretty much removed it from the equation), that would actually be my part of the blanket.

That's right: I'm a blanket hog.

I sleep in the middle of the bed, I toss, I turn, I move all around, I sometimes talk in my sleep and I steal all the blankets. Two nights ago I even managed to kick C out of bed! But somehow he still gets a few moments of shut eye.

During the summer, the blanket stealing isn't that big of a problem, but as soon as it turns cold, he's developed a system... Keep another blanket close by! This week started the colder evenings, so every night before we fall asleep, he makes sure the extra blanket is next to his side of the bed, for easy access when he inevitably wakes up freezing with no blanket.

And this is even after trading our full mattress in for a king one.

Tell me: Are you the blanket hog or the victim?

I feel like Wednesday is quickly becoming my favorite day of the week, because it signifies that we're half way done! Plus, I love rounding up things that I've fallen in love with over the week. It's a win-win-(win)!

Here's a few things that caught my eye...

This dress is killer. Somebody who fits into a size 8 or below, please buy it ♥

Each week I seem to fall in love with a blog I'm already following. This week's blog of note is The Fresh Exchange. And it's totally due to this beautiful post about staying passionate.

Furnishly is a website with cute, local, vintage furniture that's for sale. (SCORE!) There's one for Austin, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. So really, my furniture dreams can come true.

The belt that Keiko Lynn wore in yesterday's post just made me stop. Stare. And wish I had it in my wardrobe, right now.

Speaking of things that made my stop & stare -- have you seen this dress in Target's new line, The Shops? I love how Jessica from What I Wore showed it off.

Blogging, a Tutorial: Vol. 2

Tuesday, September 18, 2012

This is the second week in a series of blogging tutorials. Last week, I covered the 3 questions every blogger needs to ask themselves. This week is the 5 rules for writing a good blog post. Have a question or want to submit your own tips? Email me!

If I'm being honest, writing that "perfect post" rarely happens. Maybe I've had a bad week and just didn't want to put forth much effort. Maybe I was distracted and couldn't find the right thing to say. Or maybe, just maybe, no matter how proud of something I am, the reader (you) just couldn't relate.

Sound familiar?

Putting together that "perfect post" can seem daunting. But, luckily for you (and for future me), I've thought long & hard about it, and have come up with five rules for writing a good post. (I'll leave "perfect" for another time ♥ )

Rule #1: Plan
I'm a scheduler. When I first started blogging, I created (and kept!) an intense schedule (we're talking 16 posts a week, all planned & coordinated ahead) .... I've mellowed a bit over the years, but learned a valuable lesson from my early days of over-posting.

Planning is good, and helps you succeed by keeping you organized & focused. And it allows for time to be made to perfect your posts. Good posts take time, and you won't have that time unless you plan for it.

Keeping a calendar of scheduled posts is invaluable. I sit down at the beginning of each month & map out where I'm going. I don't always follow it completely, but having the initial calendar as a guide helps me to keep my head above water and greatly diminishes stress, which in turn increases my motivation and creativity.

Pro tip: always keep a notebook handy. You never know when ideas will strike!

Rule #2: Say Something
My husband's biggest criticism of some of my posts is that I'm too vague & don't say anything. I argue that the "blog world" doesn't allow for specifics, particulars, and life lessons. But then I realize every blog that I love always has something to say.

And I want to be a blogger who strives to matter, to be meaningful. Because otherwise, I feel like I'm wasting my time and my readers' time.

Want a specific example? Stay away from the "sorry I haven't blogged in so long! My life is just so chaotic right now!" posts.... Instead say "hey world, this is what I've been up to lately. Here's some pictures and things I've learned from my time away from my blog."

Rule #3: Make it pretty
I have stopped reading blogs that are ugly. Does that make me a bad person? Maybe. But instead of losing sleep over it, I've instead learned great, wonderful things from other blogs that took the time to make themselves beautiful. When the sea is as big as the blog one is, there's always another fish blog. Being an aesthetically pleasing fish blog is something to strive for. First impressions are extremely important.

How do you make things pretty? I'll defer to the prettiest blog around to answer that. A Beautiful Mess has so many wonderful blog tips. Those girls know what they're doing.

Rule #4: Organize
Notice how I have an introduction, a build up, a very cohesive 1, 2, 3 list that is set apart by subheadings and formatting? That's on purpose. Because there's a lot of words in between those headings, and if it was all jumbled together, we'd never make it through.

Keeping posts organized is not only pleasing to the eye (rule 3) but practical. It helps the writer stay focused on the message, and reader informed of what's going on. Some of my favorite posts I've ever read are stream-of-conscious, journal-like entries. But none of my favorite blogs are made up entirely of those types of posts. Because they're exhausting and way too chaotic to continually read.

Use formatting. Take the time to organize your thoughts. Be purposeful. I promise, the outcome will speak for itself.

Rule #5: Make it enjoyable
Make posts enjoyable by staying true to yourself, staying genuine, and thinking "would I enjoy reading this?" as you write it. If you wouldn't read your own blog posts, why would you expect anyone else to?

Watch grammar and spelling. Don't use obnoxious fonts or colors. Keep flashing and moving objects to a minimum (if you could have only seen my MySpace page back in the day....). Stay optimistic and move forward. Blogs are ultimately entertainment. And entertainment needs to make readers want to come back for more.

Most importantly, you - as the writer - need to enjoy yourself. When I stop enjoying writing, my entire blog suffers of mediocrity. And that's when I take breaks, re-vamp, re-energize and re-focus. Because if I'm not enjoying this, why am I doing it?

Thanks for reading! Have any more tips to add? Let me know in the comments ♥

{Link up with Join the Gossip, five30three, & Sami's Shenanigans}

Playing aunt while getting ready to go out ♥
So, I think last week I made some comment about being home for the long haul, and that no weekend trips were in my near future?

Well, I lied.

Sister's night out!

Hope you'll forgive me for that lie. Because this weekend trip was for a good cause. You see, my sister Jessica turned 23(!!) last week, and our schedules finally worked & we went out to celebrate in downtown Austin.

It was a night full of great food, terrible stand-up, and good old-fashioned bar hopping. And free champagne, booty dancing-watching, introducing my sister to "night life" (since she's been preggo since 21...), and just quality sister-time like that which you dream of. I'm lucky enough to have sisters that I not only love, but get along with and want to spend time with. ♥

This was her first time out to a bar as an "adult" -- Coyote Ugly was her fave bar. Mine closed down :( ♥

Plus, when it was all over, we crashed at my mom's place (and yes, she was awake when we got home, just like high school), which meant homemade tortilla soup and hanging with my niece Sunday afternoon. She even gave me gas money before I headed back home. In a word: perfect.

I hope you had a great weekend too!

Stay tuned. Lots of fun coming up this week ♥

I've been thinking this all week. And it's so true. Stress has definitely taken its place in my life, in a bad way. I'm trying to simplify, but end up stressing myself out over the simplification process. Luckily, I'm getting away this weekend for a sister's night out on the town. We may even hit up our first ever dance club.. maybe. But whatever the weekend ends up holding for me, I hope the end result is lovely peace and much needed rest.

Here's some links for the weekend....

20 Fall Recipes. Pumpkin Martini included.

Important lessons from NYC. But applicable even to this Texas girl.

Street shots outside of NYFW. I love catching some of my favorites in candid.

An hour-long round table with all the Emmy nominated women of comedy. Worth the watch.

A tweet worth remembering.

Great thoughts on "being busy".

Archives worth going through. You'll see more pretty dresses than you'll know what to do with.

This one's my favorite.

My favorite post I've written in a while.

How to keep up with me this weekend.

On Marriage & Fashion

Thursday, September 13, 2012

I love writing these weekly marriage posts. It forces me to be reflective. To stop -- pause -- and think about the lessons I've been learning lately

And on Saturday, when C said my maxi skirt and side braid looked "frumpy", I just thought he was being mean and I blew it off. Until, I read this post on Story of My Life, about an almost identical issue (or "discussion", if you will) with her man.

Her post was warm & honest. I could tell where her heart was, and I totally related to, and appreciated, the emotions so sincerely conveyed.  The post she was inspired by, on the other hand, was honest but in the "truth sucks" kind of way. I'm glad I read Jenni's blog first, but Raven's post really hammered that nail in.

And so the reflection began. I couldn't help but want to explore the topic -- because it was so near to my heart & fresh on my mind. So I put aside my blogger blinders and sense of pride, and began to really think. How much does C's opinion matter? And then I realized I write a weekly marriage post, and not a weekly fashion post, for a reason: one is more important than the other in my life.

And when I think about it, I'm lucky to have a guy who pays attention to me -- and who has always been willing to help me shop. He even claims he has better style than me & knows how to dress me better than I know how to dress myself.

And I have to admit, over the years, he's been proven right.

So, I decided to get my guy's opinions, and preferences. I asked him to make a list of what he likes and dislikes. I'm considering this my "personal style Polaroid reference card" straight from Stacy and Clinton...

[these are quotes, unedited. straight from C.]

Hate on you: Love on you:
  • When your hair looks less like strands, more like individual hair.

  • Unnecessary fabrics - undershirts, cardigans, ruffles

  • Things that hide your shape - it doesn't have to be skin tight, but no giant skirts or boxy dresses

  • Anything with a "tagline" -- if you have to explain why it's not stupid, it's stupid. I don't want to know the theory or explanation.

  • Make-up to impress women: French tips, sparkly nails, bright lipstick

  • Things that  look like you -- I've seen you naked. I don't need a lot of skin, but don't hide your shape.

  • Boots, hats, eyeshadow, low-cut shirts... anything that shows you are confident.

  • Jeans and T-SHIRTS. You don't have to be "the girl next door." Just look comfortable without being a slob.

  • Anything worn confidently without maintenance or constant fussing. Just look good & be comfortable in your skin.

  • Me. My arms, hands, lips... any part of you wrapped up in part of me.

I have to admit - parts of his list shocked me. Others just reminded me of what he tells me often. What I realized most, though, was he doesn't list specifics like women tend to do. (Notice: no mention of pelplum.) Instead, he focused more on the vibe, the emotion and attitude, caused by what I'm wearing.

Confident. Low maintenance. Proud of who I am.Got it.

Here's a few things I'm really loving this week...

Jamie of From Me to You // Ann Street Studio is quickly becoming my favorite blogger. Maybe of ever.

This print. Perfect for my kitchen.

This NYT article about Pimm's, which I've actually yet to try. But it definitely sounds elegant!

The front of this shirt is incredible! Just wish they had one in my size. I love the lace trend. Much more the peplum trend (which isn't very flattering on a "widder hipped" individual like moi).

This beautiful, healthy salad from 101 Cookbooks. This will be lunch next week. It's decided.

If I had to pick my favorite thing of the week, though, it would definitely be this image at the Lincoln Center snapped by The Sartorialist. I can't stop staring at it.

Blogging, a Tutorial: Vol. 1

Tuesday, September 11, 2012

I'm nearing my two year blogiversary, and I can't believe it! I feel all grown up in this little blog world. I can't help but be excited about what I've done here and what I've learned.

And as my excitement was growing, I came up with an idea.... why not share some things that I've learned with my the world? So I made a list.... And the list grew to over 20 topics I wanted to touch on.

So hold on. Because this is going to get fun! Over the next few weeks months, I'm going to share tips, tricks and insider's ideas on all things blogging. From HTML coding, to my tips for hosting giveaways. I have a few "blogging pet peeves" and will definitely have some guests stop by & share their expertise.

This week, I'm starting basic...

***

Starting a blog is easy. You pick a platform (Blogger, Wordpress, Tumblr, Livejournal), create an account, and go!

So you have your blog. Now what?

I've had so many friends mention to me that they don't know where I get all my ideas from. "How do you always find something to write about?" I've been asked countless times. And after thinking about my answer, I've determined 3 simple questions every blogger must ask themselves....

***
{1} Who Are You?
Crafter? Writer? Baker? Cook? Artist? Mom? Store owner? Photographer?

{2} What Do You Like?
Pop culture? Thrifting? Fashion? Books? DIY's? Telling your life story? Making money? Promoting your business?

{3} How Private Are You?
Anonymous? Share pictures of yourself? How about what town you live in? Pictures of your kids?

***

My answer to these three questions sums up my blog pretty nicely:
I am a writer interested in pop culture, marriage and food who wants to share most parts of my life with the general public.
Which, that's nice to write out, but the reality is that these questions aren't answered in neat little one-sentence structures. The answers are formed over months and years of experience and life. And the answers aren't always static. When I feel my blog getting a little stale, I take a step back and ask myself 1, 2, & 3....

Starting a blog is so much more than signing up for an account. It's discovering what you're passionate about, and what you want to share with the world. I've seen blogs that are super specific, others that are super broad. Some that are all text, some that are all images. The beauty of the blog is the lack of "rules".

I'm drawn towards more personal blogs, while others may like the more cut-and-dry tutorial blogs.

But whatever blog you write, or stumble across, the three answers above have been answered at one point or another -- even if subconsciously. I'd argue the ones that answer consciously will produce better content over the long haul, and won't flame out when the response isn't what's desired.

So, you want to start a blog? Great! Find out who you are & the rest will come. Trust yourself. Trust your interests and your passions. And know what you're comfortable sharing.

Now go, have fun! Blog!

And stay tuned for next week ♥

Weekend Update: As It Should Be

Monday, September 10, 2012

This weekend was exactly the weekend I've been yearning for. It was simple, but active. I was able to be productive and yet still spend a ton of time resting up & just enjoying life.

I also had a total of four Pumpkin Spiced Lattes (1 hot, 1 iced, & 2 Vias at home) since Friday. So that may be why I'm in such a good mood. PSLs (because I use the abbreviation now :) are seriously making my life 10x's better. Even if it was 90* and I had to get it iced. (Pro tip: get it iced. It's amazing.)

So enough of me promoting Starbucks ♥

Friday night date night was a "stay-at-home" cheese plate and wine sort of night. Perfect, simple. So much fun. And super tasty!

The big highlight of my week was football! The Aggies played their first game against Florida. It was our first game in the SEC. And ESPN's College Game Day was here. It was pretty epic. Except for the loss at the end of the game. But I'm just glossing over that.

{via}

I'll focus, instead, on these:

Homemade pretzels. Stuffed with cheese & pepperoni. oh yeah. You read that right. And it only takes about 20 minutes of work. [Recipe here]

Sunday was just as wonderful. A late brunch, and Celeste & Jesse Forever. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Beyond words amazing. I was crying walking out of the theater it touched me so much. Have you seen it yet?

How was your weekend?

My favorite recipes: FOOTBALL FOOD!!

Friday, September 7, 2012

This weekend Texas A&M University is hosting Florida for our first ever SEC game. The atmostphere in town is already craaaaaazzzyyy.... and although I'm a bit bummed that I don't have tickets to the games this year, I'm really excited that I now get to invest a lot more time into....

FOOTBALL WATCHING FOOD.

Maybe my favorite thing ever.

***

Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Cookie Pie
Soft Pretzel Bites (also made with pepperoni & cheese!!)
Caprese Kabobs
Ancho Chile Rub Tenderloin Sliders
Caramelized Onion, Bacon & Goat Cheese Pizza

***

Ok, so now I'm super hungry from just looking through those recipes.Yikes oh mighty. TELL ME: what's your favorite football food, and what team are you rooting for this weekend??

{Have a good weekend!!}

While I'm not here, follow me on Twitter. I talk a lot over there ;)

On Marriage & The Friend Zone

Thursday, September 6, 2012

I was going to blog about staying home with C this weekend. Drinking beer and watching football and how excited I was about hanging out. Being friends. But then all I could think about was being friends with my husband, which led me down a rabbit hole....

I love that my husband is my best friend. I love that I can be completely comfortable and myself with him. We've been doing that since we were 16. Which all sounds good on paper.  The question I can't keep getting out of my head is how to avoid the "friend zone" in marriage.

Because while I love our friend time, I adore our intimate times. Those times that are only between us. And I'm talking about so much more than just sex. Pillow talk. Taking care of each other when we're sick. Truly giving yourself up for the other on every front.

I'm really curious how couples of years and years together (especially when kids are added) make sure to keep the "friend zone" out of marriage. Especially if they started off, as so many of us do, as friends with their partner.

My grandparents at their weddings. ♥

I can go into how I, with 3 years of marriage experience under my belt, keep it intimate. But as I look ahead, into that infinite abyss of marriage possibilities, I understand that what I know now is nothing compared to what I'll eventually come to learn.

My cousin Whitney said something to me this past weekend that I can't get out of my head. She & her husband are coming up on 8 years of marriage. They have four kids, he works his M-F/8-5, she directs the household, and they all live happily ever after. But as she's coming up on 8 years of marriage, she's realizing that she's now been married longer than her parents. I asked Is that an odd realization? And she just said "It's just amazing how hard you have to fight for it, and how many people aren't willing to put the work in."

And that's the mentality I want to have 5 years from now. I want to still be fighting and working for something worth fighting for.
